1. Introduction

The International Parliament Journal (IPJ) is an independent international publication dedicated to advancing democratic discourse, parliamentary affairs, governance, and public policy through rigorous journalism, research, and analysis.

This Editorial Policy establishes the standards, principles, and procedures that guide all content published on IPJ, ensuring journalistic integrity, editorial independence, accuracy, and transparency.

Consequently, this policy applies to all content, including articles and news reports, research papers and analyses, commentaries and opinion pieces, interviews and profiles, photo essays and graphics, video content and multimedia, and directory listings and institutional information.

2. Editorial Independence

2.1 Core Principle

IPJ maintains complete editorial independence from all external influences, including governments and political parties, parliamentary institutions, international organizations, corporate entities and sponsors, donors and funding organizations, advertisers and commercial partners, and any other external interests.

2.2 No External Control

Therefore, no external entity, organization, or individual exercises control over editorial decisions, content selection, story framing or perspective, publication timing, editor appointments or editorial staffing, or opinions expressed by contributors.

2.3 Independence from Advertising

Furthermore, IPJ’s editorial content is wholly separate from advertising and commercial activities. Consequently, advertisers have no influence over editorial content, sponsored content is clearly distinguished from editorial content, advertising placement does not affect editorial decisions, and commercial interests do not shape journalistic priorities.

2.4 Editor’s Authority

Importantly, all editorial decisions remain solely within the discretion of IPJ’s editorial board and editors.

3. Journalistic Standards

3.1 Accuracy and Truthfulness

IPJ commits to the highest standards of accuracy and truthfulness in all content. Specifically, we verify information from multiple reliable sources, fact-check all claims statistics and assertions, distinguish clearly between facts and opinions, correct errors promptly when they occur, and never publish knowingly false or misleading information.

3.2 Fairness and Impartiality

Moreover, IPJ strives for fairness and impartiality in reporting. Therefore, we present multiple perspectives on complex issues, avoid unfair bias toward any side, give opportunity for response to those criticized, treat all subjects with respect and dignity, and avoid prejudice based on race, religion, gender, nationality, or other factors.

3.3 Accountability

Furthermore, IPJ holds itself accountable to our readers and the public. Consequently, we respond to reader concerns and feedback, explain editorial decisions when requested, acknowledge mistakes openly, provide contact information for editorial inquiries, and publish corrections transparently.

3.4 Transparency

Importantly, IPJ operates with transparency in all editorial matters. Specifically, we identify authors clearly for all content, disclose funding sources and potential conflicts, explain methodology for research and analysis, cite sources for facts and data, and make editorial policies publicly available.

4. Content Types and Standards

4.1 News Reports

News reports must be accurate (fact-checked, verified from multiple sources), timely (published promptly while ensuring accuracy), complete (provide sufficient context and background), neutral (present facts without editorial bias), and attributed (clearly cite sources of information).

4.2 Research and Analysis

Research papers and analyses must be methodologically rigorous (clear methodology, appropriate data), peer-reviewed where applicable (subject to expert review), transparently sourced (all data and references cited), objectively presented (avoid unwarranted conclusions), and reproducible (methods and data available for verification).

4.3 Opinion Pieces and Commentaries

Opinion pieces and commentaries represent the author’s personal views only, do not necessarily reflect IPJ’s editorial stance, must be clearly identified as opinion content, should be well-reasoned and supported by evidence, and must not contain false, defamatory, or misleading information.

4.4 Interviews

Interviews must be accurately reported (quotes verified when possible), contextually complete (not misleadingly edited), ethically conducted (informed consent from interviewees), transparently attributed (clear identification of interviewee), and respectful (avoid harmful or inappropriate questioning).

4.5 Multimedia Content

Photos, graphics, videos, and multimedia must be accurately represented (no deceptive editing), should be properly captioned (clear context and attribution), must respect copyright and intellectual property, should avoid misleading manipulation (altering truth), and must obtain permission where required.

5. Corrections Policy

5.1 Commitment to Corrections

IPJ recognizes that errors may occur despite our best efforts. Consequently, we commit to identifying errors promptly when reported or discovered, correcting errors transparently with clear notices, learning from mistakes to improve future accuracy, and maintaining reader trust through accountability.

5.2 Types of Corrections

Corrections may include on-page correction for minor errors (typos, names, dates), correction notice for significant errors requiring explanation, content removal for false, misleading, or harmful content, full retraction for seriously erroneous or unethical content, and author response when author disagrees with correction.

5.3 Correction Process

The corrections process includes error identification (reported by readers, discovered by editors, or self-identified), verification (editors verify the error and determine appropriate correction), correction implementation (error corrected with notice if significant), notification (author informed of correction if applicable), and documentation (correction recorded for accountability).

5.4 Correction Notices

Correction notices will include what was corrected (specific error), why it was corrected (reason for change), when it was corrected (date of correction), and who made the correction (editor responsible).

5.5 Contact for Corrections

6. Ethical Guidelines

6.1 Independence from Conflicts

Editors and contributors must disclose potential conflicts of interest, avoid conflicts that could compromise editorial independence, recuse themselves from decisions involving conflicts, and not accept gifts, favors, or compensation influencing content.

6.2 Plagiarism and Originality

All content must be original (not plagiarized from other sources), properly attributed (credits given for quotations, data, ideas), fairly used (respecting copyright and fair use principles), and transparently sourced (clear citation of references).

6.3 Confidential Sources

When using confidential sources, verify information from additional sources when possible, explain necessity for confidentiality (when publishing), protect source identity (safeguard contact information), and use responsibly (not for misleading or unverified claims).

6.4 Privacy and Sensitivity

IPJ respects privacy and handles sensitive information carefully. Specifically, we protect personal information (unless public interest requires disclosure), be sensitive to victims of trauma, crime, or hardship, consider impact before publishing sensitive content, and obtain consent where appropriate for personal stories.

6.5 Children and Minors

When content involves children, protect minors’ privacy (avoid identifying information), consider vulnerability (avoid harmful questioning), obtain consent from guardians when required, and prioritize child welfare over editorial interests.

7. Submission and Publication Guidelines

7.1 Submission Process

Contributors submitting content should ensure originality (not published elsewhere), provide accurate information (verified facts, proper citations), disclose conflicts (potential interests affecting content), follow format guidelines (IPJ submission requirements), and grant publication rights (as per Terms & Conditions).

7.2 Editorial Review

All submissions undergo initial screening (eligibility, relevance, quality), editorial review (accuracy, fairness, standards), fact-checking (verification of claims and data), and final decision (accept, reject, or request revisions).

7.3 Publication Decisions

Publication decisions are made solely by IPJ editors (external entities have no influence), based on editorial standards (quality, accuracy, relevance), may involve revisions (requests for changes before publication), are final (no guarantee of publication for any submission), and may be rejected without detailed explanation.

7.4 No Guarantees

Importantly, IPJ does not guarantee publication of submitted content, specific timeline for review, detailed feedback on rejected submissions, acceptance based on contributor status or affiliation. All decisions remain at the sole discretion of IPJ unless otherwise stated.

8. Diversity and Inclusion

8.1 Commitment to Diversity

IPJ commits to diversity and inclusion in contributor selection (broad range of voices and perspectives), content coverage (representing diverse communities), editorial staffing (inclusive hiring practices), and reader engagement (accessible to all audiences).

8.2 Avoiding Bias

Therefore, IPJ avoids stereotyping based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, etc., marginalizing underrepresented groups, excluding diverse perspectives on issues, and perpetuating harmful narratives or prejudices.

9. Freedom of Information

9.1 Access to Information

IPJ supports freedom of information and advocates for transparency in government and institutions, reports on information access issues, critiques restrictions on public information, and promotes open data initiatives.

9.2 Ethical Investigation

When investigating information, use legal and ethical methods only, respect privacy rights, avoid harassment of sources or subjects, and comply with laws regarding information access.
