The priority theme of African Union CSW68 was clear. It aimed at accelerating gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls of African Union nations. This goal centered on tackling poverty, strengthening institutions, and boosting financing.
At the same time, the review theme returned to a key area. It looked at social protection systems, public service access, and sustainable infrastructure. These were based on African Union CSW63’s agreed conclusions.
African Union: Africa’s Voice in Global Gender Policy
Every year, the Women, Gender and Youth Directorate (WGYD) of the AU Commission (AUC) takes part in CSW. It promotes the Africa Common Position (CAP) on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE).
This participation ensures Africa’s voice is heard. It also aligns with Agenda 2063, Africa’s long-term development plan. Importantly, it supports the AU Strategy for GEWE. This strategy places women and girls at the center of all development efforts.
Objectives of the African Union Ministerial Consultation
The AU Ministerial Consultation during CSW68 had two key goals.
First, it aimed to present the Outcomes Document from Africa’s regional consultation.
Second, it worked to agree on strategic advocacy actions. These actions are meant to shape the CSW68 Agreed Conclusions.
Together, these steps ensure that Africa’s gender priorities are reflected in global commitments.
Strategic Alignment with Agenda 2063
It helped align global gender efforts with Africa’s development vision.
By advancing the Africa Common Position, the AU strengthens its influence. It promotes inclusive, gender-responsive global policies.
A Unified Stand for Women and Girls
Finally, this high-level engagement highlights the AU’s firm commitment. The focus is on ending poverty, strengthening institutions, and improving financing—all through a gender lens.
The message is clear: Empower every African woman and girl. Put them at the heart of Africa’s transformation.
