In a historic development, Cuban Deputy Rolando Miguel González Patricio has been elected President of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (Parlatino). This marks the first time a Cuban legislator has held the presidency of the regional legislative body. Background and Career

González Patricio, a member of Cuba’s National Assembly of People’s Power, has a distinguished background in international relations and academia. He holds a degree in International Political Relations from the Raúl Roa García Higher Institute of International Relations. Additionally, he is a Professor and Researcher with a PhD in Historical Sciences. His career includes roles as director of the Centro de Estudios Martianos and the Instituto Cubano del Libro, as well as rector of the University of the Arts. Leadership in Parlatino

Prior to his election as president, González Patricio served as First Vice President of Parlatino. His tenure has been marked by efforts to strengthen interparliamentary relations with national congresses and assemblies of Parlatino member countries. He has also developed strategic cooperation alliances with Europe, Asia, and Africa, aiming to expand the organization’s membership.
