Spread the information

Addis Ababa, (Ethiopia)Ethiopia is set to host the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) from September 8–10, 2025, in Addis Ababa. Under the theme “Accelerating Global Climate Solutions: Financing for Africa’s Resilient and Green Development,” the summit will position Africa as a central voice in global climate negotiations ahead of COP30.

Although Africa contributes less than 4% of global greenhouse gas emissions, it endures some of the harshest climate impacts. As a result, erratic weather patterns, devastating floods, and prolonged droughts are already disrupting livelihoods across the continent. Therefore, the Second Africa Climate Summit (ACS2) will prioritize bold, actionable strategies that connect local innovation with scalable and sustainable climate finance.

Key voices—including African Heads of State, global leaders, civil society, youth, women, Indigenous Peoples, private sector, and academia—will gather to shift the narrative from aid dependency to investment-led solutions.

Africa Climate Summit: Day-by-Day Focus

First Day: Nature, Technology, Energy, and Infrastructure
This day will highlight the role of Africa’s natural ecosystems and emerging technologies—such as solar irrigation and clean energy corridors—as essential for green infrastructure and decarbonization.

Second Day: Adaptation and Resilience
From climate-smart agriculture to sustainable cities and mobility, this day will showcase Africa’s responses to rising climate risks, with a focus on food systems and mineral sustainability.

Third Day: Climate Finance and Africa-Led Solutions
The final day will push to reframe climate finance as strategic investment. Africa seeks to mobilize $2.5 trillion in funding to implement its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) by 2030. Leaders will advocate for fair financing, private sector participation, and debt reform.

Pre-Summit Events (September 5–7): Voices from the Ground

Grassroots actors—women, youth, and Indigenous groups—will shape the agenda during pre-summit events. These inclusive sessions will ensure Africa’s most vulnerable populations are central to climate policy and innovation.

Showcasing African ingenuity will be a major pillar of ACS2. Some highlighted innovations include:

  • Ethiopia’s Green Legacy: 40 billion trees planted.
  • Kenya’s Renewable Pledge: 100% green energy by 2030.
  • The Great Green Wall: Restoring 100M hectares across the Sahel.
  • Digital Climate-Smart Agriculture platforms.
  • Climate and Health Nexus programs integrating health systems and climate resilience.

Unlocking Scalable Climate Finance

ACS2 will challenge current financing models. The summit will:

  • Call for grant-based reform.
  • Promote blended finance and private sector incentives.
  • Push for just energy transitions that leave no one behind.
  • Support early warning systems and climate services for better risk preparedness.

Regional Unity and Global Impact

The Summit aims to:

  • Position Africa as a unified force ahead of COP30.
  • Launch the African Leaders Addis Ababa Declaration and Call to Action.
  • Mobilize multi-billion-dollar green investments.
  • Propose a clear roadmap for project implementation and accountability.

Africa Climate Summit Goals

ACS2 is not just a summit—it’s Africa’s moment to lead. It calls on governments and partners to:

  1. Back African-led climate solutions.
  2. Elevate green development as a tool for equity.
  3. Build effective partnerships for knowledge, funding, and technology.
  4. Ensure that outcomes are action-driven and future-focused.

The Declaration from ACS2 will, in turn, feed into key global processes—including the UN General Assembly, G20, and COP30. In doing so, it will demonstrate that Africa is not only prepared to reshape the climate finance landscape for its own future but also to contribute meaningfully to global climate solutions.
