Duterte Family Shows Strong in Philippines Elections

Former President Rodrigo Duterte won the Davao City mayoral race despite being detained by the International Criminal Court (ICC). He received over 660,000 votes, beating his closest rival by a large margin. His son, Sebastian Duterte, won as vice mayor, while Paolo Duterte, his eldest son, kept his congressional seat.

Two Duterte grandsons also won in local races. In the Senate, five Duterte-backed candidates led in early results, signaling the family’s continued political dominance.

Sara Duterte Strengthens Political Position in Philippines Elections

Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio faces an impeachment trial in the Senate. Charges include misuse of public funds and an alleged plot to assassinate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Despite this, she remains politically strong. The election results improved her chances of surviving impeachment, with many Duterte-aligned candidates winning Senate seats.

Philippines Elections: Marcos Camp Faces Mixed Results

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. saw mixed outcomes. While some of his allies are set to win Senate seats, the strong showing of Duterte loyalists could challenge his legislative plans. The results have shifted the power balance in Congress.

COMELEC Defends Philippines Elections Integrity

The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) assured voters of a fair and transparent process. COMELEC Chair George Erwin Garcia reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to clean and honest elections. He promised to address any concerns about transparency.

What’s Next for the Philippines?

These midterm election results have reshaped the country’s political landscape. The Duterte family remains powerful, while Marcos faces new challenges. As the 2028 presidential elections approach, these developments will play a key role in shaping the future of Philippine politics.
