IPU: Road ahead, the vision of the new IPU President

I believe that establishing new and innovative strategies is essential for resolving IPU’s challenges in its pursuit of
achieving meaningful peace and sustainable global prosperity.

The Vision-

The world is faced with complex developments, and is being tested by unprecedented multifaceted challenges, ranging from the effects of climate change, socio-economic challenges, inter-state conflicts and threats to peace and security, that have wideranging ramifications to developed and developing countries. Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a global organization with almost universal membership, brings together National Parliamentarians to deliberate and offer solutions, to a myriad of these challenges, through dialogue among Parliamentarians. As a
devoted Member of the IPU since 1984, the United Republic of Tanzania, has been collaborating with other Members
to realize IPU’s shared values of peace, justice, tolerance, respect, and solidarity.

If elected, I will work with fellow members to achieve the following:

– Improve IPU’s effectiveness, transparency and accountability;
– Spearhead reforms in the IPU, for peaceful coexistence and global prosperity;
– Ensure effective participation and representation of Geopolitical Groups in the Organs of IPU;
– Advocate for increased women representation in National Parliaments,
– Ensure implementation of IPU’s Resolutions and Decisions;
– Strengthen IPU cooperation with United Nations, Regional Interparliamentary Organizations, and othe stakeholders; and
– Ensure regular consultations within, and between the Geopolitical groups of IPU.
If elected, I will be the first female President of IPU from the African continent and the first ever from Eastern Africa. As IPU President, I will serve diligently and tirelessly, to address a myriad of challenges facing the world, and strive to realize the goals and aspiration of the IPU. I therefore humbly count on your support and endorsement of my candidature.
