On October 10, 2019, in the IV Extraordinary Session of the National Assembly of People’s Power in its IX Legislature, the Second Transitory Provision of the Constitution was complied with , and the President and Vice President of the  Constitution were elected from among the deputies. the Republic of Cuba.

REPUBLIC PRESIDENT

MIGUEL DÍAZ-CANEL BERMÚDEZ

He was born on April 20, 1960, in Santa Clara. The student trajectory passed successfully in the different teachings. He held positions in the Pioneers Organization, FEEM and FEU. As a member of the UJC he went through different responsibilities, from the base to the National Directorate. He was First Secretary of the UJC Committee of the Central University of Villa Clara and a member of the Provincial Bureau. He graduated as an Electronic Engineer and later a Master’s Degree in Management.

He held the positions of First and Second Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the UJC, in Villa Clara and Second Secretary of the National Committee until 1993, when he was promoted to the work of the PCC as a member of the Provincial Bureau in Villa Clara. In 1994 he became the First Secretary in this province, a task that he carried out with positive and recognized results. He was elected a member of the Central Committee in the V Congress. In 2003 he was transferred by decision of the country’s leadership as First Secretary of the PCC in the province of Holguín, being elected a member of the Political Bureau, due to his merits and integral qualities. In 2009 he was appointed Minister of Higher Education and in 2012 as Vice President of the Council of Ministers. Promoted to First Vice President of the Councils of State and Minister in 2013.

He was an Internationalist Cooperator in Nicaragua from 1987 to 1989. He attended the “Ñico López” Higher School and did a Postgraduate Course in World Economy and the National Defense College, where he graduated from the First Level Diploma of Defense Preparation. In the year 2000 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He holds, among other recognitions, the following medals: Distinguished Service of the FAR, Vanguard of DAAFAR, Vanguard of the FEU, Internationalist Cooperator and the Félix Elmusa Order.

VICE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC

Salvador Antonio Valdés Mesa

He was born on June 13, 1945 in Amancio Rodríguez, Las Tunas province, where he began his working life in 1959 as a farm worker. He is an agricultural engineer. He joined the National Revolutionary Militias in 1961, he was a member of the Association of Young Rebels where he held the responsibility of general secretary in the Amancio Rodríguez region. In 1962 he joined the national commission that worked on the constitution of the United Party of the Socialist Revolution in various regions of the Camagüey province. In 1968 he was promoted to the leadership of the municipal Party in Santa Cruz del Sur until he became secretary general.

In 1971 he began his union work, being promoted to general secretary of the CTC in the Santa Cruz del Sur region and a professional member of the provincial secretariat in Camagüey. In 1980 he held the head of the Department of Attention to Mass Organizations of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Camagüey. In 1983 he served as second secretary of the Municipal Committee of the Party in Santa Cruz del Sur and in 1985 its first secretary. In the XVI Congress of the CTC, he was elected second secretary and in 1992 general secretary of the National Union of Agricultural and Forestry Workers, a responsibility that was simultaneously with that of second secretary of the National CTC.

He was Minister of Labor and Social Security between 1995 and 1999, the year in which he was elected first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Camagüey. He was elected Secretary General of the CTC in its XIX Congress, in September 2006 and remained in office until 2013. He participated as a delegate to the IV, V, VI and VII congresses of the Party and in the IV he was elected member of the Central Committee . He has been a member of the Political Bureau of the Party since 2008, ratified at its VII congress. Since 1993, he has been a deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power. Member of the Council of State from the I to the V Legislature and from the VII to date. In the VIII Legislature, he was ratified a member of the Council of State and elected Vice President of the Councils of State and Ministers. In 2018 he was promoted to first vice president.

He has been awarded the medals: “XX Anniversary of Literacy” and “XX Anniversary of the UJC”, “Jesús Menéndez”, “Combatant of the War of All the People”, “50 Anniversary of the FAR” and the Distinctions: “September 28” and “Distinguished Services of the FAR”. http://www.parliamentcubano.gob.cu/
